Burn It All To Light The Way - QuickStart
A downloadable ttrpg
This game is up on Kickstarter right now!
A Roleplaying game about Skilled dungeon explorers, Sacrifice, Resource management, Extravagant excess, Ambition and Taxes.
Above is the city, the guilds, the king and his taxes.
First are the great twisting corridors, changing and shifting.
Second grow the roots and plants spreading into the earth.
Third come the great waters, a million islands under no sky.
Fourth is the library, where all knowledge lies.
Fifth are the stars, floating in place.
Sixth is the source of magic, where the world can be changed.
A new take on a classic genre
A group of hardy explorers, who have uprooted their lives and moved to a city in the middle of nowhere in order to explore the greatest dungeon of the world: for riches, to find its secrets, for power, or maybe to reach the immense magic at the source of it - and use it to change the world.

Strange Competent Characters
Highly Competent player characters that rely less on luck, and more on their own skills to traverse a fittingly dangerous environment.
- Roll "tags" to define each character and what they can do.
- Don't roll at all if there's no danger involved.
- When something is truly important to you: Burn (temporarily sacrifice) your tags instead of rolling to succeed automatically.
Strange Dangerous world
These strange competent characters are matched by the strange dangerous dungeon they delve into.
- Monsters and traps that kill the untrained or unprepared.
- Simple but important resource management.
- Minotaurs with laser beams.
- A demon trying to sell an apartment inside the dungeon.
Quick yet Deep rules
- Most of the rules fit on a 2-page summary.
- Easily convert any existing adventures to the game.
- Focus on the reality of the fictional world.
Try this game if...
- You're a fan of stories like Dungeon Meshi, Tower Dungeon, and Adventure Time.
- You like OSR games and want to branch out to more fiction-first games.
- You like fiction-first games and want to go exploring dungeons.
What else to expect
- Frog summoners.
- Mud sellers.
- Cosmic prophecy about snakes.
- Players trying to convince their GM that being a camel trainer should totally help fight a crocodile because "crocodiles are the camels of the swamp".
- GMs telling their players "no that's nonsense".

What does "QuickStart" mean here?
The essentials for playing the game - the rules, making a character, etc. It's totally free, and available right now.
The full version is being crowdfunded right now, with rules for the 5 main floors of the dungeon, it's many monsters, adventure locations, more gm guides, more magical items, and so much more.

I had the chance to play it and had a great time. Its a good choice that seek out a dungeon crawling experience without the crunch of many other systems.
I've played this multiple times at our RPG night, Michael is a great GM. All hail the land of culture and blood and look out for the hamsters.
Wonderful beginner friendly game! Truly the best to have more seasoned players at the table enjoy a greatly crafted world while the beginners have game designed with accessible rules to start exploring the world of RPGs. Truly recommeded :)
A great game with a simple and elegant playstyle that leaves plenty of room for creative play and focuses on fun! I played once to try something new and never stopped since.
This is a game for you, if;
- you love the idea of crawling through a dungeon that is part mystery, part vibrant cultures, and part life threatening danger.
- you are looking for a well paced game that motivates players to be creative without locking them in with complicated rules.
- you like to invest in your characters and let them grow through adversity.
- you are looking for a new game to DM that is easy to learn with plenty of room for your own creativity.
It is definitely worth a playthrough, and this quickstart makes it super easy to get your first game going!
Had a blast playing this. For character creation you just roll some tags, and it immediately gives you an idea for your character. Burning tags felt meaningful and fun.
EDIT: GM’ed it now as well. Lots of fun to push players and see how much they are willing to burn to succeed.
I've also had the chance to try it out and both times had a lot of fun. Super easy and straightforward rules. I especially like the tag system and how your tags help to build out your characters background.
Having played at the creator's table for quite a few times, trust me when I say this system gloriously combines the gritty osr item-focused dungeon crawling with anime-esque skill tags which can be used to to great feats at a risk. Characters will unravel quickly and the further you go in the dungeon the more you will lose. I am amazed by how this system brings tough choices onto the players just by design without requiring the gm to wrack their brains to make them by hand. As a player you'll find yourself often wondering wether you want to "burn your tag" just for that auto-success or extra difficult feat, or wether you want to keep that tag for later and gamble with your character's life instead. I highly recommend this system for anyone wishing to experience a more old-school type of story where the world is dangerous and adventurers have to rely on their problem solving skills, while still having a more narrative focus. The system doesn't bog itself down with unnessecary details such as hyper specific swimming/jumping rules or stat blocks for weapons, it runs on quick logic and dm discretion of wether it would logically work or not. It will be an easy system to introduce to both long-time players and those new to the ttrpg scene.
An amazing experience of an RPG!
I love the fact that you can intentionally or randomly play a completely random type of person. That also helps with in-game deaths, and you want to try something completely different.
Always remember your tags and try to use/abuse them as often as possible. This game is great for a group of lawyers, trying to convince the DM of the usage of your tags is half the fun!
Don't forget your 8-sided dice and keep exploring the dungeon!
The game has a captivating "deeper in the dungeon is deeper into madness" setting. It's tag system makes character creation intuitive and evocative. Fantastic use for public domain art. Highly recommended.
I've been playing this game at my local RPG night and it's so much fun! The tag and burn system gives you a lot of fun options while also making every burn feel really major, like you're making a big sacrifice for the party.
This also lets the fights be quite hard, and your actions to have real consequences. If you don't burn a tag your character could be getting sliced in half by a laser minotaur or getting their mind shattered by the infinite knowledge of everything in the universe.
You have to work to come up with creative solutions and arguments to convince the GM why your random tag (say, astrologist) is relevant for escaping from a book worm (it was written in the stars!) which makes for a really unconventional approach to problem solving which relies not only on your character's skills but also yours.
The dungeon is incredibly well designed, and every new floor we discover is full of so many new crazy things to do.
This is my second campaign in this system, and it continues to be so much fun and so different every time!
Super cool game that has garnered quite a following at my local RPG night! The tag system is really fun. Watch out for those taxes, though!
